Upstream is the leading news source for the oil and gas industry. It reaches over 38,000 readers through its weekly newspaper and over 200,000 unique users via UpstreamOnline.
The media pack promotes Upstream to potential advertisers and has been presented in a new design each year. As a global news source, Upstream has produced media information in English, Portuguese and Mandarin with comprehensive advertising rates in USD, EUR, GBP and NOK. We then took this media information online with the launch of a bespoke website aimed at advertisers.

Print and online advertising target both potential advertisers and subscribers. The ‘plus-sign’ and ‘arrow’ advertisements use positive symbology as a basis to illustrate Upstream’s offering to subscribers, while the ‘fistful’, ‘Houston’ and ‘astronaut’ advertisements link strong, impactful imagery with copy explaining the value to potential advertisers needing to connect with Upstream’s hard-to-reach, top-management-orientated readership, and how their subscribers’ notable investment in a subscription means that they value Upstream and use time reading their copies (as opposed to the numerous, easy-to-obtain free publications in the market).
The ‘heavy-weight advantage’ leaflet is one of several used to promote the information benefit provided by an Upstream subscription and to reinforce the paper’s position as a leading and powerful source of energy-industry journalism.
